Check Who Can Apply If the Youth Monthly Rent Support Income Limit Rises to 100% of Median Income

Key Takeaway

The 2026 Youth Monthly Rent Support covered young households at or below 60% of median income; the 2027 budget plan adds KRW 200,000 a month for 24 months at 100%. 2026 is current and 2027 is only planned.

What were the conditions of the 2026 round?

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's press release of March 18, 2026 covers homeless young people aged 19 to 34 who live apart from their parents. Income and assets were looked at separately for the young person's household and the original household (including parents).

Support was up to KRW 200,000 a month for up to 24 months. The housing subscription savings account requirement that existed in the second round was dropped from this round.

When did applications for 2026 close?

Applications ran from March 30 to May 29. The guidance said 60,000 new recipients would be chosen nationwide, selections would be announced in September, and support would be backdated to the May rent. That schedule belongs to a round that has already ended.

This material doesn't tell us whether a separate application window is open right now. Open the Bokjiro notice and check.

What is said to change in 2027?

The Policy Briefing's August 30, 2026 introduction to the 2027 youth budget says: to ease the rent burden of young people at or below 100% of median income, KRW 200,000 a month in rent support will be provided for 24 months, KRW 4.8 million in total. The August 28 policy news also says Youth Monthly Rent Support is being expanded.

These figures are a plan in the budget proposal. The effective date and how to apply are not in the material I checked.

Does everyone at 100% of median income qualify?

No. The figure of 100% alone doesn't decide who is eligible. The budget introduction doesn't say whether this threshold is for the young person's household or the original household. This material also doesn't tell us whether the 2026 conditions, such as being homeless, living apart from parents, age and assets, will stay the same in 2027.

News media have also mentioned a monthly income amount, a longer support period and an age change. None of the three government sources above contain that, so I haven't included it in this article.

What should you check before applying?

There are three things you can do before a notice comes out.

  1. Use the self-check on Bokjiro or the MyHome Portal to see first whether you qualify under today's conditions.
  2. Confirm that the homeless, living-apart-from-parents status that applied in 2026 is still accurate for you.
  3. When recruitment begins, check the application period and documents again on the Bokjiro website or at your neighborhood administrative welfare center.

Frequently Asked Questions

In 2027, will rent support be more than KRW 200,000 a month?

The 2027 budget material I checked lists KRW 200,000 a month for 24 months, KRW 4.8 million in total. It says nothing about raising the amount or period.

If I was rejected in the 2026 round, can I apply again in 2027?

The budget plan points to a wider income limit. But whether you can reapply and when applications open are not in this material, so check the Bokjiro notice.

Are both the young person's household income and my parents' income considered?

The 2026 round looked at both. The young person's household had to be at or below 60% of median income, and the original household at or below 100%. The material I checked doesn't specify which one the 2027 figure of 100% refers to.
